The dremel 8000 Series – The Cordless Dremels

dremel 4000

Dremel 8200

Since its inception in 1932, the Dremel company has produced a great number of models of Rotary tools. Many of these have been battery-operated, but were generally avoided by professionals for all but the lightest of work, because they lacked in power and battery life. The Dremel 8000 series has changed all that.

Lithium ion battery technology has made it possible for the dremel 8000-03 and 8200-1/28 to perform with power more comparable to the corded dremel models. The dremel 8000′s 10.8 V battery hold the charge about six times longer than a nickel cadmium battery and it has a shelf life of up to two years.

It is an incredibly versatile tool that can be used to sharpen your chainsaw blade, do intricate hobby work or trim your dog’s toenails. The number of projects where you can use your dremel tool is actually quite amazing, due to the wide

The Dremel 8200

The 8200 is dremel’s most powerful and versatile cordless rotary tool. Offering variable speed from 5000 to 30,000 RPM the 8200-1/28′s 12 V system will adjust to match a wide variety of uses. Whether you’re carving jack-o’-lanterns, sanding airplane wings, etching glass, or carving a wood design, the lightweight 8200 will help you do the job faster and easier.
So let’s find out what actual owners of these tools have to say about them.

User Reviews Are A Good Resource

  • “I’ve used Dremel tools for over 15 years now. I’ve mainly stuck with the corded ones, as the battery-powered versions tended to run out of charge quickly, had less RPM, were generally heavier and usually had a lot less torque. The lithium version has none of these drawbacks. Because there’s no cord it’s more comfortable to hold (and much more convenient to use!)”  click here to see the full review.
  • “I’m telling you, I use this thing constantly and it works like a champ! It is powerful enough for me to cut all my brass and aluminum with the precision of that of a doctor. For as handy as this tool is–I’d pay twice as much to get one if need be. I’ve had mine for 5 months too.” Click here for full review.
There are some down sides as well-
  • “One of the reasons I went with a Dremel was the attachments, here’s where the disappointment comes in…many of the attachments don’t fit this model (I hope I can add the word “yet”). So if you’re ordering this and it’s your only Dremel, make certain the attachment says it fits the 8000…don’t assume, like I did, that there is backwards compatibility…there isn’t. I learned this the hard way with both router table and hand-held router.” Click here for full review.
  • “After being somewhat disappointed with the 10.8v version of the Dremel rotary tool, I have been extremely impressed with this latest offering from Dremel. Smaller rotary tools have limited utility in my opinion due to the lack of power and low rotary inertia. The tradeoff, of course, is the need for compactness leads to smaller batteries and motors. The dremel 8200 is a nice balance. If you have medium to large hands this product should allow you sufficient dexterity for most applications. However, using the product like a writing instrument or dental drill would be tricky for most users.” Click here for full review.
If you have the time it is worthwhile to read through all of the reviews, because then you’ll get the full story the good, the bad, and hopefully not the ugly. All in all it looks like dremel has finally succeeded in producing a top-of-the-line cordless rotary tool. So check it out!
